Frequently Asked Questions

How much of a science background do I need?
This is an interdisciplinary program and does not require an extensive background in the biological sciences or public policy. However, some basic familiarity with biological concepts is necessary. Therefore, individuals applying to the program who have not majored in biology, chemistry, microbiology or other related field must have the following qualifications:

  • Undergrad course work in Biological sciences totaling a minimum of 3 credit hours
  • Professional experience in the workplace that relates strongly to the subject matter presented by the program, evidenced by a letter of recommendation from your current employer.

How long will it take to get a certificate?
The length of time really depends on the course load you can take. For example, if you take two courses in each of two semesters, and one course in the third semester, it would take one and a half years.

When are classes held?
Most courses will be held in the mid/late afternoon and evening in order to accommodate work schedules.

Are courses offered during the summer?
Most courses will be offered only in the fall and spring semesters.
