Microbiology & Immunology Journal Club

Organized by the graduate students, the journal club provides an opportunity to discuss and critique the hypotheses, experimental design, conclusions, and potential implications of journal articles spanning the fields of molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, immunology, pathogenesis, and vaccine design. The journal club also helps students develop valuable presentation skills in a supportive environment. Though attendance and participation is required for all graduate students at the Microbiology & Immunology Department, students from other departments as well as faculty are welcome and encouraged to attend.

The Microbiology Department Journal Club meets every Tuesday 12:30 - 1:30 in the Department Conference Room.

For additional information, please contact Kathleen Cashman at (202) 687-1717 or via email at kac2@georgetown.edu

Virology Club

Interested in virology? The Virology club meets weekly for in-depth discussions of current virology research at Georgetown and critical analysis of high impact publications. Participants include faculty, students, post-docs and research staff working in or interested in virology. Monthly research presentations from the Rosenthal, Padmanabhan, and Casey labs cover viral oncogenes, RNA virus replication, RNA editing, and protein and RNA structure-function relationships. During journal article presentations we dissect published results and discuss their implications for work here at Georgetown and the field of virology as a whole. Recent articles have covered SARS, hepatitis C, antiviral effects if siRNA, and newly discovered host functions that counter HIV.

Come join us on Mondays at 4 in the Conference Room (NE301). Check The schedule on the bulletin board in the hallway or contact John Casey caseyj@georgetown.edu to be added to the club email list. All are welcome!
